Service DescriptionThroat swab testing at Primea Polyclinic is a routine microbiological analysis detecting pathogenic bacteria or fungi in the pharynx of children and adults. A sterile swab gently collects samples from the tonsillar surface and posterior pharyngeal wall for laboratory culture and antibiotic susceptibility testing (antibiogram). Patients receive a report identifying pathogens alongside effective antibiotic options. Performed for severe odynophagia (painful swallowing), throat erythema, white exudates, or persistent coughing. Samples should be collected in the morning before brushing teeth, eating, or drinking, or at least 2 hours after food intake, always prior to starting antibiotic therapy.
