The First Trimester Double Test (free β-hCG, PAPP-A) and Ultrasound at Primea Polyclinic in Belgrade is a combined first-trimester prenatal screening designed to evaluate the early risk of common fetal chromosomal abnormalities.
The package includes an in-depth ultrasound scan where the obstetrician measures fetal nuchal translucency (NT), confirms the presence of the nasal bone, and evaluates other anatomical markers. Immediately following the ultrasound, a maternal venous blood sample is taken to assess pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) and free beta-hCG levels. These ultrasound measurements and biochemical markers are calculated together via specialized software to provide an individualized statistical risk assessment for conditions such as Down syndrome (Trisomy 21), Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18), and Patau syndrome (Trisomy 13). This screening is a standard element of prenatal care and must be carried out within a strict gestational timeframe: between weeks 11 and 13+6.
Fasting is not required prior to the blood draw; however, it is essential that the ultrasound examination and the blood sampling are completed on the same day.
